Annie Emmerson

Coach Annie Emmerson is a former international athlete, who competed in triathlon, duathlon and running. Over a ten-year period she raced in all three sports for Great Britain winning five major medals. She retired at the top of her sport in 2006 as the World #1 duathlete. Based in Surrey, Annie speaks English and Spanish.

Training at the top for ten years under a number of the world’s leading coaches, including Brett Sutton, has given me a profound insight into the mental and physical attributes needed to perform to the best of one’s ability. I use my experience to coach athletes with varying abilities and aspirations to help them achieve their sporting goals.

Whether it’s advising three-time Olympic gold medalist James Cracknell in his quest to break the Olympic distance two-hour barrier or helping an enthusiastic age-grouper get the best out of the limited training time available to them, I understand how to balance a busy lifestyle with the physical demands of training.

Coach Annie Emmerson

I’ve been involved in triathlon for over 20 years – 12 years as an athlete and now over 8 years coaching. I was coached by Trisutto.com Head Coach Brett Sutton for the last 4 years of my career. In that time I won medals at World and European Championships and also raced on the World Half Marathon team for GB. My career was diverse as I competed in duathlon, long and short course, triathlon, Olympic distance up to half-Ironman, and I also competed for Great Britain as a runner.

I have coached some amazing athletes over the last few years including a World Champion duathlete, Kona qualifiers and mulitple World Championship GB age-group athletes. My athletes have ranged from teenagers right up to a 72 year-old-female athlete who still competes over the Ironman distance!

I look forward to helping you achieve your goals soon.

I heard mentoring is where someone gives you advice and coaching is where someone works in partnership with you to bring out your very best. Annie most definitely coaches!

I have worked with Annie for two years. Each year I set her a challenge: to help me qualify for the GB Age Group World Triathlon Team and finish an Ironman. Not only did her coaching help me succeed at both – my results over-exceeded my expectations – by a very long way.

Annie is so talented you work hard to try and impress her, but so approachable you can admit when life has got in the way of triathlon training and you’ve missed a key session.

And she recommends red wine as a recovery technique – who could argue with that!

Annie has excellent skill and knowledge to work with the individual needs of the athlete.

When I started working with Annie I was looking to improve my results in my new sport, duathlon. In particular I needed to improve my running so that I could be within sight, or closer, to the faster runners so that my strong biking skills could be put to good use. Over a period of 18-months Annie nurtured my running, always making sure that her training combined well with my bike training.

Annie’s task was to work with my previous background in cross-training and indoor rowing, which is all about strength, to help turn me into a leaner more enduranced based athlete, one who could run very efficiently over long distances. Annie has helped me achieve this, and her advice, has without doubt helped me achieve the results that I did in Duathlon and Powerman racing.

Across the skill gap, across the 30+ year’s age gap, and definitely across the illness/injury gap, Annie is a fantastic mentor, coach and motivator! From the first time I approached her three years ago, full of awe and trepidation, she has been consistently encouraging, consistent yet challenging, and always taking a holistic approach.

With her individualized, regular programming she has taken the competing demands on my time into consideration, and been totally reliable. As a masseuse too, she never even apologized as she inflicted pain, though it solved the problem! But above all and despite her own superb achievements over 20 years in triathlon, and her breadth of knowledge, Annie is cool, approachable, inspiring and fun to work with!

Why Low Cadence for Triathlon?

Strength training - low cadence, big gear hill reps for Trisutto camp athletes in Cyprus. Even after all these years, and all the results I'm still asked by athletes about bike cadence. How come I'm such a proponent for 'non-biker' trained athletes to use low cadence?...

Fearless Racing

Melanie overcomes the tough conditions at Ironman Western Australia with a smile. This weekend, I had Melanie Baumann racing in one of the most beautiful places in the world, Western Australia. After racing Hawaii in October, Melanie was still keen to race and...
