As a relatively late starter to triathlon with no swim background, I had to learn the hard way and have a deep empathy for beginner triathletes and anyone that struggles with their swim. My most succesful years as an athlete and coach have come while working under Brett Sutton and the Trisutto.com team. My coaching philosophy is based on giving 100% as a coach in return for 100% from the athlete. The objective is to achieve whatever my athlete’s goals are and working with them to ensure training and racing are always focused around their objectives.

Dan McIntosh Coaching

Dan has over 14 years of triathlon and coaching experience. After completing his first race in 2001, an experience in which he ‘nearly drowned’ as Dan puts it, he was back in 2002 with a much improved effort and a resolution to compete at the Olympics and Kona after he was done with his studies.  With a Graduate degree in engineering, a very busy Dan in his career before turning pro would coach a youth soccer team, join the CU triathlon team, qualify to race Kona and climb Mt McKinley.

In 2010, Dan’s first year as a professional athlete he managed 5 wins and 5 podium finishes. At his first ITU event, earned 4th place and opportunity to join USAT development program. During this time Dan also opened a gym in Denver CO,  and coached triathlon as well as a youth and masters swim team. Dan always played a role into the founding of LifeTime Fitness Triathlon Training Program.

In early 2012 Dan began his tenure as development athlete and coach with Brett Sutton and the Trisutto.com team. After overcoming a serious injury after being hit by a car while training, Dan went on to record wins and podiums including 3 top 10 finishes in Ironman distance events before 2014. He he has now returned to ITU racing in his focus for the Olympics.

Dan’s coaching philosophy prioritizes individual attention, and delivers this through online communication and in person training sessions. Athletes are invited to train a few days or weeks with Dan. In addition to traveling for races, he splits his training base between Cozumel, San Diego, Boulder and St. Moritz.

Dan is an amazing coach who knows his athletes and how to devise a coaching plan to fit the individual. His ability to push me harder when needed and to encourage me when needed has taken me across the finish line from Sprint distance races, an Olympic, and two 70.3 distances. He’s taught me how to dig deeper than I thought I ever could. As I take on training for my first Ironman I can’t imagine going through this process without the expertise and guidance from Dan.

Dan has been the most outstanding coach I have worked with in triathlon. He looks at more than just the athlete but each person as a whole complex individual. Every training session and race strategy has a rhyme and reason in my development. Dan is always willing to explain the whys and hows about the process.  He is on top of our correspondence and gives very concrete feedback that keeps me from guessing when we are coaching remotely. I am completely confident and have 100% faith that what we are doing, at any one time, is exactly where we are supposed to be. The proof is in the work. After only working together 4 months, I completed my fastest half ironman, made my first professional podium, and have transformed into a quick and confident runner.
