This weekend saw the first race of the season for Joey-Lynn Mussleman at the Bangsaen Triathlon near Bangkok. Always a consistent and dedicated trainer, Joey was rewarded with an Age Group win (and 3rd Age Grouper of the day). She even won a little cash to boot. Super start to the year Joey!
Kim Kilgroe has been at our Sunshine Coast Camp for just over a week now and it has been straight to work. This weekend we took advantage of our local Park Run which allows us to run an accurately measured 5k every Saturday morning (for free!) and starts just 2 mins easy jog from our Sunshine Coast Training base.
Finally a big congratulations to Mariana Andrade who this week received an award for being the number 1 ranked triathlete and duathlete for 2015 in her State. A nice recognition for a great year.
Race Recap from Coach Cam Watt:
Shannon went to Challenge Wanaka Half amidst a run focus block, designed to rebuild her run. This will take time and dedication, which she has in spades. After front-running the entire race all day, she was caught late in the run to come 3rd overall & 1st in her 30-34 age-group. After spending a week at camp in Gran Canaria, Shannon is adapting great to the Trisutto training methodolgy.
Race Recap from Coach Bella Bayliss:
It was a cool start to the day at the NuTriCross sprint distance offroad Triathlon in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote but it soon warmed up once the race was under way.
It was a fast swim start, Stephen was 2nd out of the water behind Victor Vovrusko, up and coming Marcos Knight was 5th out of the water. Stephen powered on the mountain bike and lead the whole race to win overall,
TriActiv’s Leon Drajor was 2nd overall. Marcos Knight was 2nd in his age group with another impressive race, Adrian Hernandez was 3rd in the same age category. TriActiv’s Urko Pinto an impressive 15th overall, and David Rey Lopez 45th overall.
In the women’s race Raquel Gonzalez Arestegui led the swim and Lucy 4th,
By the end of the bike Slovakian Aya Stevens was in a comfortable lead and continued on to win. Raquel was 3rd, Lucy 4th, TriActiv’s Laura Mulcahy 5th. TriActiv’s Sandy Robson had a good race and won her age category.
Congratulations to all!
Race Recap from Coach Robbie Haywood:
Mark Richardson completed the Wokingham Half Marathon this morning, as part of his preparations for Ironman South Africa in April, running a respectable time. This the day after 5 hours on the bike and a swim, and prior to another loosen up recovery swim and short east ride later that same day.
Hats off to Mark, as less than 6 months ago he was in the final stage of preparing for Hawaii Ironman when he crashed and sustained cervical spine fractures (a broken neck!) requiring months in a neck collar and rehab. Having been in a similar situation myself we were able to work together, and super happy for Mark to be healthy and working hard to earn his spot back at the big dance.
Race Recap from Coach Mat O’Halloran:
This past weekend, Andy Wibowo was in action at the Meta Sport Sprint Aquathlon in Singapore. After a solid week of training, with the goal of the bigger races later in the year, Andy joined this event out of opportunity since he was picking up a new bike, a Venge Vias from his sponsor Specialize.
In a close race, where the top 5 where within 35 seconds of each other, Andy gave it his all with least than ideal conditions, where he finished a respectable 4th overall in an international field, that included a consistent regular age group champion, national team athletes and 2015 SEA Games medalist.
29:19 AJ Anderson (Australia)
29:25 Bryce Chong (Singapore)
29:38 Rikigoro Shinozuka (Malaysia)
29:53 Andy Wibowo (Indonesia)
29:54 Benjamin Ansel (Malaysia)
Up and onwards for Andy, who after struggling with a shin injury in the 2nd half of least year, is excited to test his bike legs at the Subic 70.3 in 2 weeks time.
Congratulations to all our athletes competing this weekend.
