Since coming on board as assistant to head trisutto.com coach Brett Sutton two years ago, I’ve had the privilege to learn of the intricacies of the Trisutto.com training approach. I have been an enthusiastic triathlon age-grouper for 16 years, have worked under various coaches and spent much time learning the workouts and the mix of workouts for my own optimum performance. With these methodologies I have been able to pass on to my own athletes and have watched on with pride as they have gone from success to success.

I have always been very sporty and spent my youth playing netball, football, cricket, athletics and pretty much any sport that was going around.  I was also selected to represent Australia several times as a middle distance runner in my late teens. After high school I completed a Bachelor of Education (Phys Ed) lived for extended periods in the UK, The Netherlands, USA and Japan before settling back home in Australia.

I was introduced to Triathlon by my husband, Robbie, and it didn’t take long to follow suit. Over the past 16 years I have completed many Sprint and Olympic Distance triathlons, approx 50 Half Iron distance races and exactly 20 Ironman Distance races. I have competed in Australia, Europe and North America, including six times in Kona.

My all time favourite triathlon experience was Challenge Roth in 2012 with the bonus of winning my category.  My highest level result was winning my category in Las Vegas as the 70.3 World Champs in 2013.

In 2013 I moved to Cozumel, Mexico with my husband Robbie.  Robbie having taken on a role as coach of the TriCozumel Junior Elite Team coach, and also co-coach to Brett and his pro team. Having spent many years previously reading up on Brett’s training philospohies, I used the opportunity to stand on deck with Brett and gather as much insight into his coaching decisions and ideas as possible. Brett was very willing to share as much knowledge as possible with me.  Every single coaching decision he made seemed to have a perfectly logical reason behind it.  He sent me a large list of stories he had written over the years to read, both for my entertainment and also to give my feedback on.  After reading many accounts over the years from ex-athletes about Brett’s epic coaching methods, I so enjoyed reading many of the same stories from the coaches perspective. I have previously worked with various athletes in an informal advisory role, however over the past 2 years I have transitioned into a full time coaching role, with Brett as my mentor. I am also Brett’s Age Group confidant.  In 2014 Brett expressed a goal to become more accesible to age groupers and I have been assisting Brett with this. We have developed training plans for age groupers, started up age group camps and Brett writes very frequent blogs to give insight into his training techniques and philosophies.

Water Running for Triathlon

Coach Susie Langley with Corinne Abraham doing some water running. Way back in 2003 I remember watching Wazza, one of the guys in my triathlon training squad in Brisbane, put on his run shoes, promptly jump in the pool and start running up and down the lane. "Crikes,...
