Abi on her way to a 73:37 half marathon on the Gold Coast.
We at Trisutto.com would like to introduce Abi Bayley back to the pro athlete roster.
Abi has been quietly working her way back to fitness and we’re now confident we’ll see her back competing at the top end of the sport in the near future.
Abi contacted us after having a bad spell with injuries after some very successful run races in 2012.
Just like Jane Fardell, Abi was a triathlete before her running career and has a long history with the squad.
With a breakthrough performance in 2008 to win the Australian Long Course we believed she was on her way to the top of triathlon. She went on to take 3rd in Ironman China and backed it up with a great year in 2009: 4th in Ironman France, 4th in Ironman Australia and then capped it off with a great Runner’s Up position in Ironman UK.
Sadly, with results like this you would think one could be a professional athlete. However as we’ve seen with great athletes in the past, financial reality sets in and Abi made the decision to retire from Ironman racing to work in Australia and be with her now husband, Steve.
Here, she embarked on some running and captured her new home state’s 5km and 10km titles. She was then runner-up in the Australian 5km track champs with a sharp 16:11.
Unfortunately, injuries of a major kind cut the story short.
The good news for the Trisutto.com team is that we are bringing her back through triathlon. Rehabilitation starts with the swim and bike, and we now have her back running every second day. Coach is now looking for a run race to give the Achilles a test out at some real speed.
Long term we’re focused on getting her to give triathlon one more try as there is unfinished business to complete. An Ironman win to go with her past silver and bronze in the event.
However for now we are just so pleased she is back running freely and with a smile again on her face. Best wishes for the future Abi. We are so happy to have you back.
